German Red Cross - Ortsverein Zell im Wiesental
Tested profileOn December 16, 1925, Dr. Emil Knab and Mayor Karl Walz founded a medical column at the Hotel Schwanen in Zell. Today, the DRK Ortsverein Zell i.W. is a well-established association with a wide range of work.
The DRK OV Zell i.W. is divided into the areas of youth red cross, social work and readiness. The area comprises the three municipalities Zell i.W., Hausen i.W. and Häg-Ehrsberg.
The Youth Red Cross (JRC) promotes active youth work of children and adolescents between the ages of six and 27 through regular group lessons, excursions and support of the school medical service. The JRK is to lay the joy of helping and thus the basis for social responsibility in children and adolescents.
Social work provides entertainment, prevention and health promotion for young and old people. The engagement includes weekly several group hours in different premises. This is primarily intended to offer people with a low pension or low income the opportunity to participate in sports activities. In addition, the "ladies of social work" are also active in the urban old people's home, providing home residents with various activities. Gymnastics, excursions and entertainment such as reading aloud and playing are part of this.
In addition to the fire brigade, the mountain guard, the Federal Agency for Technical Relief and the Bundeswehr, readiness is part of civil protection with a focus on civil protection. The common goal is to be able to provide the population with optimal assistance if necessary.
Examples of fields of application in civil protection are major damage events and accidents (e.g. bus accidents, fire incidents, train accidents) or natural disasters (e.g. floods, landslides, avalanches).
In addition to civil protection, the task of the readiness of the DRK OV Zell i.W. includes medical services, as well as provision of food and accommodation for emergency workers and victims. Examples are:
support for emergency care as a local helper (HvO team of readiness),
regional medical services, e.g. wrestling events, such as fights of wrestling clubs, city festivals, carnival, etc.,
supraregional medical services, e.g. Stimmen Festival Lörrach, Regio-Messe Lörrach, Medieval Festival Weil am Rhein, Motocross Schopfheim, or similar,
a unit of the treatment station for major damage events (BHP25), and
three blood donation campaigns per year for the DRC blood donation service Baden-Württemberg – Hesse.
Furthermore, the DRK OV Zell i. W. one of three medical units of the district association Lörrach in civil protection for temporary care of injured persons and care of persons in supra-regional major damage events, such as train accidents, large events or accidents, until the care in hospitals or similar can be continued. The concept is called Treatment Center-25, BHP 25.
If there are personnel shortages, the comrades of the surrounding local associations help out. In addition, intensive cooperation is maintained both during missions, training and social events.
