Digital health education where people need it – looking, everyday and sustainable

With the project “healthy and digital on site” a further development of the successful predecessor project “healthy and digital in rural space‘. The focus is on looking for educational work with older people, in particular those with previously restricted or missing access to digital health services and services.

What is it about?

The aim is to build and maintain low-swell education offerings that help older people to better understand and use digital developments in the healthcare sector – e.g. the e-recept, the electronic patient records or video-telephone hours and the training of multipliers.

Why is that important?

Around 2.4 million in Baden-Württemberg People over 65 years old. Many of them have no or only little access to digital offers – whether due to lack of knowledge, language barriers or physical restrictions. The SIM study of the media educational research association Südwest (mpfs) on the handling of digital media from persons from 60 years old proves this. This is exactly where the project starts: on site, in person, at eye level.

What happens concretely?

  • Building local cooperation: with care facilities, social institutions and municipalities

  • Develop Mitmach courses: together with older people, adapted to their needs

  • Provide materials: via a digital tool box for course guides

  • Offer courses: older people qualify as multipliers and guide courses

  • Implementation of projects on site: at four locations in Baden-Württemberg

  • Ensure results: through evaluation and a strategy for testing

Who is involved?

The project is supported by
Volkshochschulverband Baden-Württemberg (coordination),
the Catholic University of Freiburg (scientific accompaniment)
and the Landesanstalt für Kommunikation Baden-Württemberg (LFK),
in cooperation with local folk colleges.

“healthy and digital on site” strengthens digital health competence and promotes social participation at age. The developed structures should also be useful in the long term for other educational areas such as political or cultural education.

The project “healthy and digital on site” is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family, Seniors, Women and Youth and by the European Union via the European Social Fund Plus (ESF Plus). The conveying time takes from 01.04.2025 to 31.03.2028.
