The Karl-Rolfus-Schule is a state-approved substitute school. It is for children and adolescents with an intellectual disability, who may additionally have a physical disability. The Karl-Rolfus-School corresponds to a public special school in terms of its organisation, tasks and teaching content. The sponsor is the St. Josefshaus in Herten, a non-profit social enterprise with a tradition of more than 130 years.
Teaching is not only aimed at imparting skills and knowledge, but also aims to promote students in the development of their personality. They should be enabled to participate as independently and actively as possible in life in all its areas. This includes the acquisition of social and communicative skills as well as the ability to provide for oneself or to deal creatively and creatively with the environment. The children are accompanied from school entry until the transition to work or further after-school offers.
The Karl-Rolfus-School also includes a school kindergarten for children with a physical disability and particularly vulnerable children from 2 years of age.
In addition, the Karl Rolfus School in Rheinfelden offers inclusion classes in the primary school sector for children with and without disabilities in cooperation with the Hans Thomas School.
