Oncological focus

What is that? In order to improve patient care in oncology (cancer medicine) in the district of Lörrach, the oncological focus Lörrach Rheinfelden (OSP), consisting of the clinics of the district of Lörrach GmbH and the St.Elisabethen Hospital gGmbH, was established by decision of the Ministry of Social Affairs of Baden-Württemberg in 2001. The aim is to constantly optimise patient care through close cooperation between oncologically active institutions and doctors. The OSP is connected, the breast cancer center in Eli certified by the German Cancer Society and the colorectal cancer center in the district hospital Lörrach.

Here oncological patients are presented by the attending physician. This possibility also exists for family doctors or specialists who can present their patients here. The internistic oncologists as well as oncologically experienced surgeons, gynecologists and if necessary. Representatives of other disciplines, e.g. urologists advise in cooperation with pathology, radio-oncology and hemato-oncology of the University Hospital Basel the clinical pictures and discuss their treatment options according to the latest international guidelines.

Specially trained therapists are available to optimise pain management for oncology patients in the region. Outpatient pain therapy is also ensured primarily by bridge care. Contact: Email: klinloe-osp@klinloe.de

Bridge care team of examined health and nurses. These support and facilitate the transition between hospital care and home care for patients and relatives. They want to form a bridge and help to make the stay at home possible.

Tumor documentation: The OSP has a best organized clinical cancer registry. All cancers diagnosed in the OSP clinics are recorded by the staff of the tumor documentation as diagnosis, therapy and progress data. They are regularly reported encrypted to the State Cancer Registry in Stuttgart, whilst respecting data protection. This guarantees a high quality assurance and enables the epidemiological evaluation of the work of the OSP.
