Iron storage disease
There are different forms and causes of iron storage disease. The congenital forms are an inherited metabolic disease caused by various genetic defects. In the most common type 1, there is excessive iron intake from the diet. The body stores excess iron in various organs, which can be permanently damaged. Mainly affected are the liver, skin, joints, pancreas, heart or pituitary gland. Due to non-specific symptoms, the disease usually goes unnoticed for a long time. The first signs can be fatigue, exhaustion and joint discomfort. Targeted blood tests and genetic tests can diagnose the disease. The disease, if discovered in time, can be successfully treated.
