Stationary hospice with 6 seats

Who will be admitted? The hospice only accepts patients with an advanced, life-limiting disease who are no longer treated by the hospital and who cannot be adequately cared for at home. They must be informed about their condition and come to hospice voluntarily. More than 90% of hospice guests are tumor patients. Patients from nursing homes are not allowed to switch to hospice. The hospice is open to people from the district of Lörrach and the neighbouring districts and Basel. Patients of all denominations and faiths are accepted. The hospice line decides on the reception.

How to get to hospice? The question is addressed to the Hospice Directorate: Mrs Claudia Deichsel (tel. 07621/169860 or c.deichsel@hospiz-am-buck.de). If all criteria are met, the family or hospital doctor will refer the patient to the hospice.

Cost of hospice stay? The stay is free of charge for the hospice guest, there is no own share as in the hospital. Health insurance and nursing care fund bear 90% of the costs, 10% of the hospice wearer must pay due to a legal requirement itself. Therefore, every stationary hospice constantly needs the active ideal and financial support of the population.

Can relatives be in hospice? Relatives are included in the hospice, the employees also have an open ear for them. You can participate in the care, and there is an overnight room.

Who is responsible for medical care in hospice? Basically, the family doctor continues to look after his patients in the hospice, in addition, if necessary, there is a cooperation with doctors who are particularly familiar with pain therapy.

What is palliative care? Relief for pain and other distressing symptoms such as shortness of breath and nausea. Openness to spiritual and social issues.

Who works in hospice? There are 6 positions for nurses in hospice, partly with additional training in palliative care, in addition to the volunteer helpers. Volunteering has a high priority in the hospice movement in both the outpatient and stationary areas.

What are the tasks of volunteers? They accompany the hospice guests and their relatives, assist in the care (e.g. turning, giving food and drink) and help in the housekeeping (washing private laundry of the hospice guests, cleaning the kitchen, setting up flowers)

Are members of the support group entitled to admission to the hospice? Members are not accepted preferentially, the hospice is open to everyone. The advantage of a membership lies in the good feeling that you support the hospice with its important work through the membership fee and always receive information about the hospice and the support circle.

How long is the stay in hospice? Very different, between 2 days and several weeks, on average 2 weeks. If all beds are occupied, a waiting list is maintained by the hospice line. The referral of the doctor is initially valid for 4 weeks, but can be extended several times.

How many beds are in the hospice? There are 6 nursing beds according to the population in the district of Lörrach.

How many hospice places are needed annually? In the district of Lörrach annually for about 60 - 80 patients. There are no other hospice sites in the district. The neighboring German hospices are in Freiburg and Friedrichshafen, in Switzerland in Basel and Ariesheim.

Who wears the hospice? The St. Josefshaus Herten, the Caritasverband of the district of Lörrach and the Diakonische Werk jointly run the hospice.
