Qualifications

The HIV Test

This test is free of charge and enables at least 6 weeks after a risk contact a reliable statement regarding the exclusion of HIV infection.
The venous blood collection is carried out in our counselling centre, the blood analysis in the laboratory of the State Health Office. The result is available after about a week and can be requested by phone. Rapid HIV tests are not offered by the health office in Lörrach. These tests can be purchased at pharmacies or online. A product list and information can be found on the website of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut.

Further information on the detection of HIV infection

There is no vaccination against HIV-1/HIV-2. The only reliable protection in sex is the condom (safe sex).

The legal entitlement to HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) includes advising and supplying the medicines as well as the necessary examinations. In Baden-Württemberg, PrEP is prescribed in practices with a special focus on HIV. Specialist practices can be found at: LINK KVBW doctor search

If a test result is positive, we offer a mediation to appropriate specialist and focus practices for the treatment of the infection. AIDS-Hilfe Freiburg offers psychological support in coping with the unusual stress situation. Since the development of the third generation of HIV drugs, the quality of life of those affected has improved significantly. As a rule, an approximately normal life expectancy is assumed.
