Specialist training “Demenz intercultural” – for a safe and culturally sensitive approach to dementia

People with dementia and migration history are increasingly encountering professionals. Language loss, withdrawal into the mother tongue, familial hiding of the disease or culturally shaped expectations of care and care often lead to misunderstandings, burdens and gaps in care.

The network Dementia in the district of Lörrach offers this specialist training for this reason:

“Demencence intercultural – for a safe and culture-sensitive approach to dementia” on 26. June 2026, from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. in the conference and festival centre, Constanze-Weber-Gasse 1 in Zell im Wiesental

The training is intended for professional groups who regularly deal with people with dementia and their relatives and want to have more background knowledge for the culturally sensitive handling of dementia: for example, employees from inpatient and outpatient care and hospitals, but also legal supervisors, police, ambulance service or offerers of family groups.

The event raises awareness of the special challenges that interculturality brings with it and provides practical orientation for a culture-sensitive and professional approach to people with dementia and their relatives.

The focus will be on:

· Culture-sensitive perspectives on dementia and age

· Typical challenges in diagnostics, counselling and care

· Linguistic and communicative barriers in dementia

· Shame, taboos and family dynamics

· Reflection of own attitude and professional patterns of action

· Practical case studies from everyday work

· Opportunities for professionals and multipliers
