More than medicines: What pharmacies do
Many people go to the pharmacy when they redeem a prescription or need a drug. Today, pharmacies make much more and are an important point of contact in everyday life for many health issues.
Pharmacists advise on the correct use of drugs and help to keep an overview – for example, if several drugs are taken simultaneously. They examine possible interactions, explain intelligible, what to consider and thus support the safe application.
In addition, many pharmacies offer additional services that are not known to many. These include, for example, flu-protection vaccinations, blood pressure or blood sugar measurements as well as individual advice on minor health concerns. Special offers such as the rental of tools – for example milk pumps – are also offered in some pharmacies. These services can facilitate everyday life and be an important support. Many of these so-called pharmaceutical services are now also an integral part of the supply and are correspondingly remunerated.
These offers supplement medical care and can provide a first orientation in certain situations. At the same time, they contribute to the patient being well informed and, if necessary, turning to the right place. Thus, doctoral practices can also be relieved, in particular in the case of simple or consulting-intensive concerns.
What is important is that pharmacies do not replace medical treatment. For health complaints that require medical clarification, always refer to a doctor's office.
In the district of Lörrach, pharmacies also play an important role in local care. It is all the more helpful to know what offers there are specifically on site.
On GesundSozial.digital, the digital health and social compass for the district of Lörrach, you will find a Overview of the pharmacies in your area. Many pharmacies also represent their services there – so you can specifically search for which pharmacy, for example, offers vaccinations, advice, the distribution of aids or other services.
A special service: On the platform you can also see in real time, which pharmacies currently have emergency services. You can quickly find an open pharmacy – even in the evening, at night or at weekends.
Pharmacies are therefore an important part of everyday health care. It is worth knowing their offers and using them if necessary.
A look forward shows that at political level, too, we are discussing further strengthening the role of pharmacies and developing additional services.
